Welcome to Bookish Bovine!

Hello, I’m Jennifer and I created Bookish Bovine with one goal in mind — to grow kids’ minds! We live in a society where technology is making our younger generations learn, think and even play, faster and faster. Faster than ever before. I’ll tell you how fast — I recently watched a really popular kids’ show on YouTube and it had scene changes every half-second to second, with two seconds being the max! It was like blink-watching. Sometimes, I just wish things would slow dowwwwnnnn.

Remember the times when we played outside in the trees, or read books about horses and far away princesses? Or what about playing with action figures that didn’t talk and move on their own? The act of playing with action figures back in the day relied upon kids’ imaginations where they came up with the voices, the action, the story.

That’s what I want to harken us back to. A time when Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow dominated morning TV for children in the US. Where content was centered around learning, not just grabbing a child’s attention just to grab it.

With that in mind, I created Bookish Bovine, as an ode to the aforementioned Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow. Bookish Bovine is a family podcast hosted by a rather unique bovine herself, Mrs. Udderbutter, with original songs, skits, and an ongoing story about a dog on a quest to catch the Giant Hot Dog. On the way, she meets other furry and some not-so-furry folks who end up turning her previously grey life, upside-down.

On the website, I will also have Cultivators, things to do to help folks prepare their kids’ minds to think and grow mentally. What things, you say? Well, things like the following:

  • Kids’ Book Reviews — for either reading to a child or for reading themselves,
  • downloadable paper activities like Connect-the Dots, to get the mind working on actual paper,
  • and the upcoming sock puppet theater I will have on YouTube, with sock puppets created by either stuff I had around the house, or bought at the Dollar Tree and put together with simple Elmer’s Glue.

I hope you enjoy the website and its content with your kids.  Strive with me and Mrs. Udderbutter to grow kids’ minds by getting kids to read and write more!s
